We begin our look at some of the recent highlights in people moves in oil with many congratulations to Lin Lifan who has been appointed Head of Distillates in Singapore for Mercuria. Lin joins from Freepoint where he was most recently heading the Asia distillates team. Previous roles were with Noble and Sinochem Oil.
Also in Singapore, Kiyonobu Tanno has moved to Equinor to be its Lead Gasoline Trader.He was previously with Hartree trading gasoline/naphtha for Asia.
There’s a first-time Trader role to report for Singapore resident Jun Yeang Teoh in an appointment by Macquarie. After internships, Jun started in 2016 at Mabanaft, with trade-analyst responsibilities there that included hedges on physical tank storage as well as looking at the supply-demand balance East of Suez.
Stine Heeser is the new bunker trader for Danish marine fuels/lubricants trading and brokering company NORbunker. She worked formerly in the shipping department of food distribution group Nowaco, also located in Aalborg.
Inter-dealer physical oil broking is the name of the game for Blue Oil Energy in Geneva and it has expanded its team for this by adding Josh Ward to the London desk as Fuel Oil, Feedstocks and Physical Oil Broker. Josh served with the UK’s merchant navy before taking on operations and analytics for Union Maritime. Since 2014 he has been at BP, in operations for fuel oil and feedstocks.
New Year, new job for Luke Schaab in Houston. BB Energy has employed him as an analyst for the past two years, but now converts him to Crude Oil Trader. Among positions he filled in Canada before moving to Texas was that of crude oil scheduler for the Canadian operation of PetroChina International.
Mentioning PetroChina, it has made Hu Weiqiang the Head of Trading for oil products at its Singapore office. He arrives from heading the Taiwan business of group trading arm China National United Oil (Chinaoil).
From being Head of Commodities as a partner at Yaupon Capital Management, Michelle Brouhard in New York City moves to Hartree to become an Oil Trader. For four years to 2013 she was Deutsche Bank’s director of oil trading. Among her other New York postings subsequently was as portfolio manager for TrailStone.
Former TrailStone oil liquids analyst Jason Roberts switched to Equinor at the start of 2018. Two years later, Jason is upgraded by the company, to Light-Ends Trader from principal negotiator in asset optimisation.
Christopher Sternberg is Shell’s new Global Head of Commercial Delivery for its energy platform. One year ago, his then company AutoGrid Systems announced a strategic investment by Shell Ventures in its development of internet-based options for utilities and others to deliver energy by managing networked resources. Chris is also a former head of oil and maritime at business intelligence and software house Genscape, for which he became Global MD.
Aramco Trading’s risk team is joined by Stephen Brooks, who becomes Product Control Manager. Before starting as the middle-office manager of Socar Trading in 2011, Stephen worked for BP as a product control analyst and for Nexen in risk analysis.
Finally for this edition, we head over to Mercuria Energy America to record the arrival of Jessica Piontkowski as Crude Operator. Jessica has gathered operational experience with the likes of Glencore’s Connecticut desk for middle distillates, Lukoil Pan Americas and Noble in Houston.
Stuart Mansworth in London is now an Oil Products Trader for Freepoint Commodities, after almost two years in a similar capacity with Essar Oil UK. At Mars Energy previously, Stuart was a physical broker in light ends, while with Greenergy before that he had been a gasoline trader/blender. Interesting to hear from Freepoint HQ in Stamford that it has launched PointForward, a start-up accelerator that will partner with early-stage companies engaged in activities such as trading, related to energy and other commodity markets.
Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) in the Emirates recruits Yik Shiong Leow for Senior Trader in crude oil. Leow formerly was Singapore-based for Gunvor and served AOT Energy as a senior trading manager.
Crude oil trader Devon Deobald makes the move within Calgary from Suncor Energy to BP. Devon spent 10 years to 2018 with Plains Midstream Canada, rising from price analysis to scheduling and trading. Speaking of Suncor, we note its recent statement referring to “the completion of our cross Canada network of fastcharging electric vehicle stations through our PetroCanada brand”.
