Our metals moves highlights begin with the news that Edward Fremlin-Key in London is the new Head-Base Metals Sales for the EMEA region and the Americas at ICBC Standard Bank. Formerly, Edward had been Head-LME Sales and joint head of the global metals division at ADM Investor Services International. Further back, he’d also developed experience of fixed income derivatives while with ICAP and of media marketing with Parisian group Lagardère.

Singapore news that Namesh Hansjee is made Head of Trading by Rio Tinto. Since the middle of 2018 he had been in charge of merchanting and retail operations at Sembcorp Industries. Namesh at one time was with EDF Trading, responsible for global trading activity, ahead of becoming a Merrill Lynch MD in London as its EMEA regional chief for gas, power and coal. Rio Tinto has simultaneously announced a leadership change, with Jakob Stausholm as the new CEO and Arnaud Soirat as COO. Jakob came to the group in 2018 from Maersk, he’s also an ex-VP Finance of Shell Asia-Pacific. Arnaud’s progress at Rio Tinto after joining in 2010 has included leading its aluminium business and, from 2016, heading the product group for copper and diamonds.

Newly in place for Dubai Gold & Commodities Exchange as Head-Global Sales is Louis Hems, who had three years as sales chief in gas and coal for the European Energy Exchange until the end of 2014. From there he went to ABN Amro Clearing Bank to be its European commercial head in commodities including metals and energy. Then it was back to the European Energy Exchange where he became director of clearing sales.

Gilberto Cardoso in Singapore is founder and MD at Tarraco Commodities Solutions, described as a boutique consulting firm to the commodities market. He’s specialised in metals and mining over a 20-year career that has taken him to companies in Rio de Janiero (Vale and Banif Investment Bank), to Luxembourg (heading iron ore market intelligence for Anglo-American) and Singapore (BHP Billiton for steel market analysis and Accenture as metals/mining expert). The last two years have found Gilberto in London, with ArcorMittal Mining as director of sales in iron ore and pellets.

Bullion sales at Edgewater Markets in London are now under the eye of James Oliver, recruited from Nex Markets (the former EBS BrokerTec) to be Director-Institutional Sales. The Nex role building its precious metals business followed almost four years heading the London office of Nymex as marketing manager and six years with CME Group directing client development and sales in metals and other commodities.

Added to the EMEA sales team for metals by Citi, Reagan Nettleingham in London joins from being a senior sales trader with StoneX. Reagan also has been an LME base metals trader with ICBC Standard Bank and group global sales director for UK-based commodities exchange and logistics specialist Henry Bath.

From starting as a base-metals trader for the then Louis Dreyfus Company Metals in 2012, Adhitya Sethaputra at Geneva-based IXM is now its Deputy Head-Refined Metals. He moves up from heading refined metals operations in Europe for the company.

Another Swiss appointment brings Theresa Nepote to RedcoMet Resources in the role of Senior Trader in base and precious metal concentrates. Theresa’s previous senior-trader and trader slots were similarly in the concentrates, for Werco Trade and Bluequest Resources respectively. That came after sessions in Zug for Cliveden Trading and for MRI Trading, with whom she’d also been in Brisbane.

Looking to Tata International in Mumbai, we find Avinash Kamath’s arrival as Head of Steel Trading Operations after being regional operations manager for Trafigura India. Earlier in his career, Avinash had been an engineer and then an equity analyst with hedge fund Pureheart Capital.

Stefan Zadler is appointed Desk Head-Special Products and Ores for EP Resources DE, German bulk commodities arm of the EP Power Network. He switches from leading the coke and coal trading team at ThyssenKrupp in Essen. Almost 20 years ago Stefan began by trading coal products internationally for German company RAG and later he traded on behalf of AMCI Carbon and ADM Germany.

Over to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and the head office of Algoma Steel, where Brian Hook joins the Board. It’s a move from New York for Brian after nearly nine years there with Barclays Investment Bank as Director/Senior Desk Analyst in distressed credit trading.

Teck Resources of Vancouver B.C. reports appointing Harry M. “Red” Conger, IV as EVP/COO. He had recently retired from international mining company FCX (Freeport McMoRan) after 33 years working there, rising to President and head of its operations in the Americas.

Meanwhile at the Phoenix head office of Freeport McMoRan, the vacancy for a new President/COO-Americas following the departure of Red Conger has been filled by promoting Joshua Olmsted to the position. Josh recently completed 28 years with FCX, filling leadership roles at several operating sites in the U.S. and South America before serving as the miner’s SVP-Americas.

Go to Pechniney World Trade in Connecticut about 25 years ago and you could meet Craig Tuckman just starting out as a trader in non-ferrous metals. Today, he is in Portland, Oregon, to be COO of Calbag Metals. The years between have included trading metals for the likes of Gerald, J&J and Sumitomo, being a Chase Manhattan VP for its Western Hemisphere client base in metal derivatives and stints in global metals for Merrill Lynch and Citigroup. In order to join Calbag, Craig leaves the U.S. operation of Mitsui Bussan Commodities where he was Head of Marketing-Metals Americas.

Latest job title for César Daniel at Trafigura’s Johannesburg office is that of Head of Structured Finance-Africa Metals, whereas at the same location previously he’d been manager of structured finance. César worked for Trafigura in Geneva before heading to South Africa and has also held past postings with Cofarco and Greenwish Partners in Paris.

Promotion for Srinath Venkateswar in Singapore at metals & mining company South32 takes him to Head of Chartering from his first four years with the company as a charterer. Before that there had been physical and financial freight trading at Engie, Panamax freight trading for BHP and a Panamax brokerage role with Clarksons Platou.

Finally, this time, we note Goldman Sachs’ selection of Nicholas Snowdon for Metals Strategist. Over the last 13 years he can point to research analyst appointments in metals with Barclays Capital, Standard Chartered Bank and Deutsche Bank.
